Gideon’s Promise partner public defender offices are those that have committed public defenders, managers and directors participate in the organization’s entire curriculum.
A partner office is determined based on the following criteria: (1) having sent one or more lawyers through the Core 101 Program, (2) having sent one or more seasoned lawyers to the Trainer Development Program Track 1, (3) had its Chief or approved substitute attend Leadership Summit, AND has had someone actively involved in one or more programs within the last 24 months.

Why It Works
County or state-based public defender offices that adopt Gideon’s framework and have at least two (2) defenders that have enrolled or completed the Core program. Defenders in partner offices have agreed to advocate for workplace training and development opportunities.
The public defenders that join Gideon’s Promise are supported and uplifted by their public defender office to become a true change-maker in the criminal legal system, and to transform the system by committing to the following:
- Becoming an outstanding, “client-centered” advocate, committed to the goal of providing all people accused of crimes with professional, competent, and zealous representation regardless of the person’s income.
- Joining a community of like-minded public defenders across the region who provide support and encouragement to one another as each strives to overcome the challenges associated with our mission.
- Developing into the future leaders needed to improve the quality of representation of poor people across the United States.
