Trainer Development

Trainer Development
The Gideon’s Promise Trainer Development Program is designed to teach participants the Gideon’s Promise philosophy, model, and curriculum as well as skills and strategies for effectively teaching and mentoring public defenders working in under-resourced systems.

Without the Trainer Development Program, the Gideon’s Promise training model could not reach a larger population of public defenders who do not have access to our curriculum. Some 93 percent of lawyers who attend a Gideon’s Promise training session say attending is essential to maintaining their passion about justice.
Program Overview
Central to the Trainer Development Program is the Trainer Development Conference (TDC), held once a year. The TDC offers two tracks:
  • Track 1, for first-time attendees, offers an overview of the entire core curriculum explaining how during two dozen sessions operate together to promote the core programmatic values. Through this track, participants will learn the substance of each session and how each fits into the larger programmatic vision, and techniques used to reinforce these lessons through workshops and exercises.
  • Track 2 focuses on advanced training and mentorship skills with a focus on building on the lessons taught in Track 1. Using parts of the larger curriculum, participants will focus more deeply on teaching methodology. Participation in Track #1 is strongly recommended before participating in Track 2.
