This program is meant for public defender supervisors, trainers and law school clinicians interested in learning the Gideon’s Promise curriculum and interested in learning strategies to effectively teach and mentor public defenders working in more challenging systems. There are two tracks to this program:
Track 1: Curriculum Development (2 days)
This is for first-time attendees and offers an overview of the entire core curriculum explaining how over two dozen sessions operate together to promote the core programmatic values. Through this track, participants will learn the substance of each session and how each fits into the larger programmatic vision, and learn techniques used to reinforce these lessons though workshops and exercises.
Track 2: Facilitation and Coaching (3 days)
This track focuses on advanced training and mentorship skills with an emphasis on building on the lessons taught in Track 1. Using parts of the larger curriculum, participants will focus more deeply on teaching methodology. Participation in Track 1 is strongly recommended before participating in Track 2.

*After careful consideration of attendee feedback, the realization that many offices are currently prohibiting travel, and thoughtful discussion regarding the national response to COVID-19, we have made the decision to postpone our Trainer Development Program conference. Please check our website for updates regarding plans to reschedule the Trainer Development Conference.
