After years of service to Gideon’s Promise and its mission, Zanele Ngubeni has stepped down as Executive Director to pursue other opportunities. Zanele has been a valuable member of the Gideon’s Promise community since she joined it as a new public defender in 2007. Over the last 18 years, we watched her excel as a trial lawyer, a trainer, and a mentor to newer defenders.
Her talents as an emerging leader led us to invite her to join our leadership team as the Director of Defender Development in 2021. In that capacity, she oversaw all our recruitment, training, and mentorship initiatives. Zanele was a valuable member of our leadership team, and because of her leadership and commitment to the mission of Gideon’s Promise, the Board unanimously voted to appoint her as Executive Director, a role she assumed in January 2024. We are grateful for her service and wish her the best of luck in the future.
The Gideon’s Promise Board of Directors has launched a national search for the organization’s next Executive Director. We are excited for Gideon’s continued growth and focus on our critical mission.
