The D.C. Fall Promise Party was created to support Gideon’s Promise and its various training programs. 

For more than 15 years now, Gideon’s Promise has transformed the criminal legal system by building a movement of public defenders who provide equal justice for marginalized communities. Its roots are in the D.C. indigent defense community, and when Jon Rapping and Illy Askia founded Gideon’s Promise (then known as the Southern Public Defender Training Center) in 2007, it was with the support of many who live in practice in this city. Gideon’s Promise has now trained and supported over 1,500 public defenders across the country to transform the way public defense is practiced in America and, through its heroic public defenders, is working to reduce the effects of poverty, build stronger and more resilient communities, and keep families together.

The D.C. Fall Promise Party is our annual event to celebrate the work of Gideon’s Promise, recognize and honor the contributions of its D.C. supporters, and renew our efforts to make sure Gideon’s Promise can continue to pursue its transformative work.
